Only in America- Day from Hell!

I had a 9:30am doctors appointment, and because I hate being late I always make sure to check in at least 10 minutes early to any appointment that I have.
Check in went quick, they checked insurance and I settled in for the wait. The system out here is so bad.
1 hour goes by, another hour and finally I am called in where I wait another 30 minutes for the doctor to come in. This appointment was my annual physical/check up.
here's how it went.
Dr. "Hi how are things going with your back"
Me "Things are the same still in a lot of pain nothing has changed since I saw you in May and you booked my surgery"
Dr. "What are you taking for the pain?"
Me " The same thing they still have me on the Vicodin"
Dr. "WHAT!!! THEY STILL HAVE YOU ON THE VICODIN AFTER 9 MONTHS????"
Me "Yes, is that a problem?"
Dr. "Well considering that Vicodin is habit forming and should not be taken for longer than 4 weeks you could have serious damage to your liver. How is your bladder working are you peeing a lot?"
Me "Yes I am I pee all the time I just thought it was normal, or was a problem resulting from my back/spine issues."
Dr. (she looks down and takes serious notes grabs a form writes in bold letters across it and looks up at me) "We need you in ASAP for blood work, with your body height and weight there is not way your body has been able to break down and get rid of the amount of Vicodin you have in your system, its been known to cause serious liver problems. Does anyone in the family have a history of Liver problems"
Me "Yes my father and my baby brother both have serious issues with their livers"
Dr. "Oh, I need you to do the blood work today ASAP.
Me "so you think there is a problem with my liver"
Dr. " In all the years I have been a DR, I would be surprised if there was not a problem with you liver."
Me (trying to hold back the tears) "Oh, well what I can do about this?"
Dr. "Stop taking the Vicodin immediately! Is your specialist aware you have been on it for 10 months?"
Me "Yes he is I complained it was no longer working for the pain so he upped the dose and gave me a stronger pill"
Dr. "WHAT"
So Needless to say it was a rough day. It will be a few days before I get the results back and she's calling me back to go over the results.
Friggin scary shit!
I cried for the rest of the day. I am so mad that this could even happen!! That's the way it is out here. The DR.s pawn off meds and it keeps most people happy.
Not me.
Anyways that was one part of the horrible day I had.
To be continued...
