I have re-scheduled Daisy's surgery to be spayed. I have been reading on line that its best to wait until she has gone into heat at least 2 times before being spayed. Being the responsible pet parents that we are we called the vet to verify if this was true. They told me that it did not matter either way and they usually suggest having the dog spayed at 4-6 months. I explained my case that she was an indoor dog she was only JUST 6 months old and there was no rush to have her fixed. (the research I did also recommended she have at least 1 litter before she is fixed WHICH WILL NOT HAPPEN)
Also due to the expense (over $150) we are going to wait and shop around for cheaper surgery places. If you can wait 2 months there are places that do it for $40-60 which is quite the savings. Also because of what she's already been through being homeless and all and has finally put on weight we are waiting. She will still go in tomorrow for some more shots and a check up with blood work to make sure all is well but the spay will wait so you will have to wait for the cone head pictures at a later date....lol

The price goes from $150 to $40-$60 in just two months?
That seems a bit strange.
could you imagine, lil daisy pups? tooo cute
S
RWA- The vet we go to is at an animal hospital, if we wait and book an appointment with the Humane Society they do it much cheaper that a regular vet.
Sal- I would LOVE for her to have pups but its not fair to her. And I would never be able to let them go...ll
Make sure to get some little diapers now so you are prepared, you will know when it is coming on because her... um, cooch will get BIG! LMAO Anyways, our dog is every 9 months but it depends on the breed. My vet said AT LEAST 6 months and preferably after a year and one heat if not two (heat's SUCK so you may go "oh never agian and it is ok, won't hurt her! LOL)... I believe him since he was a German vet and AMAZINGLY good... they are all about the animal there and NOT the owner, wouldn't even do it without one heat at the least! Love that! Anyways, send her here, it is NORMAL 65 dollars and she is really good. LMAO Sigh, my parents vet though is in Portland and they charged her 250. Crazy!
ditto on the SPCA...the one in my hood does it waaaay cheaper. that's how we had all our animals done.
Well, heck, I'm always late with my comments. I was going to suggest the SPCA or humane society thingy. They do good work and it's much more reasonable. AND they love doggies, that's why they do what they do.
I would wait for the cheaper price too. I have a silky terrier and we waited several years. I couldn't tell when she was in heat because she is so smal (5 lbs) and she did great after her surgery. She didn't have a cone and she never bothered her incision.
