I may have been a little hysterical...

Have you ever had a moment in your life where you are part of something so horrible you try to block it from your mind?

For the last 5 hours I have not been able to get it out of my mind.

I drove to Colorado today to go shopping. Something I have done a million times before.

Shopping went well. I took Daisy with me so we could have some quality mom and dog time, she LOVES the car and I like her company.

We had a great day and headed home around 5pm. I called the hubby to let him know I was on my way.

About 20 miles home into the trip its dark the moon is HUGE and I notice that there are NO CARS on the other side of the highway. None. Not a single car. So strange because this is one of the busiest highways in Colorado.

Then I see the break lights, no problem we come around the bend and the night is illuminated buy flashing nights. Police cars go by us on the left side of the road.

I immediately feel sick. I hate accidents. I do not realize how bad an accident until my car is in park on the highway. About 20 minutes pass and we are directed off onto the shoulder onto another side street beside the highway to go pass.

I am praying out loud, for who ever was involved. For the first responders for the ambulance drivers that are the only vehicles on the opposite side of the road that are taking people to the hospital.

As we near the scene of the accident I am so close we can hear the firefighters yelling to each other.

I can hear metal on metal being torn apart by the jaws of life.

I drive through clothing, suitcases, paper filling the road.

I see the cars. About 5 that I can see. And the scene makes me sick. Cars upside down, laying on there sides.

A HUGE accident. A medivac helicopter flys very close over my head. The other side of the highway has 3 more helicopters parked on the highway.

I start to cry. Daisy licks my tears. I call the hubby in hysterics. I am so upset I get sick into a cup I had in the car.

I prayed all the way home.

I am still sick about it.

What a horrible thing to see. I saw an accident like that once when I was about 11 and it is forever burned into my brain.

That is one tough situation.. and I can't imagine I'd be any more than a ball of tears if I were in your shoes.

Biddie- Yeah it reminded me of something else that happened years ago.

Deutlich- Thanks, I was surprised at how emotional I was about it. IT really affected me.

I do the same thing! I automatically start praying when I hear a siren. DH had a ride in an ambulance last week, he's OK, but I hope that some prayers went out for him as he rode in it. We sure were scared!
